History at Broom Valley
At Broom Valley, we aim to evoke the children’s interest and understanding of people’s lives, how they have changed over time and why. Children will gain an understanding of British history and a knowledge of the wider world; will be able to understand historical terms and concepts; and make connections between different peoples and cultures. We teach children how the events studied have affected our lives today and how to investigate such events. We seek to develop analytical thinkers who will be able to decide the reliability of a source of information, both in an historical context and otherwise.
Y1 have been sorting pictures and writing facts of what Broom Valley looked like in 1960 and now.
Y2 walked to Boston Castle to learn about the history of the lodge. We admired the stunning view and discussed why it might have been built so high up over Rotherham and what we could see.
In Y2, we have been learning all about the monarchy and the difference between our King and the Prime Minister. Did you know that when Queen Elizabeth was coronated, a special dish called coronation chicken was created!
In Y4 we have been learning about the Ancient Egyptians. We looked at artefacts and learnt that they had kings called Pharaohs who were like gods.
