Summer Term: Exploring the World Around Us

This Summer term, our Nursery class will embark on an exciting journey of discovery and imagination, diving into the fascinating world of animals, dinosaurs, and personal growth!

We’ll start the term by exploring various animals and their habitats, bringing stories to life through some wonderful picture books. From the curious Monkey Puzzle Tree to the vibrant Rainbow Fish and the classic tale of the Little Red Hen, we'll learn about the diverse creatures that share our planet and how they live in their special homes.

Our adventure continues with larger-than-life stories! We’ll visit the prehistoric world of Gigantosaurus, step into a magical land where There Once Were Giants, and explore our local community through Hello Richmond. These tales will spark our imaginations and help us understand more about the world, both big and small.

In addition to our animal adventures, we’ll take a closer look at our own personal history—starting from the time we were babies all the way up to who we are now! We’ll talk about how we grow and change, and discuss the exciting journey of growing up into adults.

We’ve also had a roaring good time learning about dinosaurs! In a surprising twist, we discovered a giant egg in our classroom, and after some careful observation, it hatched into our very own pet Stegosaurus! It’s been a wonderful way to learn about prehistoric creatures and their environments.

This term will be filled with hands-on activities, fun stories, and lots of learning, and we can’t wait to share all of these exciting adventures with the children. Here’s to a summer of growth, exploration, and discovery

Spring term  - How Big is My World?

This half term children will be learning and about and exploring the world around them. We will be reading the story Whatever Next and pretending to have an adventure to the moon, just like the bear in the story. The space dome will also be visiting school, giving children the opportunity to learn more about the stars, moon and planet Earth in a fully immersive experience.

We will think about journeys and the different types of habitats around the world, such as oceans, mountains and jungles through exploring the story We’re Going to Find the Monster.

Autumn 2  - Traditional Tales

F1 are excited to be back. We will be learning about traditional tales such as the Gingerbread man, baking our own gingerbread and even hunting for him around school!

Children will continue to develop their speech and language skills and learning to take turns and share with their new friends. This half term, children will continue to develop phonics skills, listening to sounds around them and exploring instrumental sounds.

Autumn 1 - What makes me, me?

We are excited to welcome you all to Broom Valley Community School. We are very pleased to welcome your child into Nursery. We look forward to the year ahead and to building a relationship with you that enables us to work together to further enhance your child’s development.

At Broom Valley Community School we want every child to be the best they can be. For this reason we strive to create opportunities for children to learn in a safe and fun environment. We provide language rich environments through high quality interactions with staff, extending vocabulary, language rich texts and nursery rhymes.

We are a nurturing and inclusive Nursery with high aspirations for all children. We get to know the children extremely well and in doing so we help to develop their individual talents.

This half term, children will begin to make friendships and learn new routines and expectations. We will think about what makes us different to others and explore our

emotions and feelings. We will also use the story of Goldilocks and the Three bears to think about our families and how they are the same and different to our friend’s families.

We will also be thinking about the people in our community that help us, such as the emergency services, shop keepers and our families.
