“Together We Dare To Dream Big”

Physical Education (PE)

At Broom Valley, we understand the important role that physical activity plays in children’s lives. We hope that, through all the sporting opportunities and physical activity we offer, the children will develop a love and passion for sport which they will continue out of school and into their later lives. We believe every child should have the opportunity to take part in physical activity daily and therefore have structured playtimes where a variety of sports and games are available. In addition, all children participate in the Daily Mile.

Daily Mile:  The aim of The Daily Mile is to improve the physical, social, emotional and mental health and wellbeing of our children – regardless of age, ability or personal circumstances.

 The Daily Mile works!

  • It takes place in 15 minutes, with most children averaging a mile, or more, each day.
  • Children run outside in the fresh air – and the weather is a benefit, not a barrier.
  • It’s social, non-competitive and fun.
  • The children return to class ready to learn.
  • It helps to improve fitness and achieve a healthy weight.
  • It encourages children to be aware of their health.
  • It’s fully inclusive; every child, whatever their circumstances, age or ability, succeeds at The Daily Mile.

South Yorkshire School Games: Hit the ground running competition...

In October 2022, multiple marathon man, Ray Matthews, visited school to do a Daily Mile Assembly. Following this assembly, Miss Walker-Baxter signed school up to a virtual competition where we record the amount of miles that a class achieves in a week.

Well done to all children who took part! Take a look at the results from Autumn 2, below:

School Games Award...

We are delighted to announce that we have achieved the School Games Bronze Mark Award for the 2021/22 academic year.

The School Games Mark is a Government-led award scheme launched in 2012, facilitated by the Youth Sport Trust to reward and recognise school’s engagement (provision and uptake) in the School Games against a national benchmark and to celebrate keeping young people active, and we are delighted to have been recognised for our success.
