Broom Valley Community School

“Together We Dare To Dream Big”

Y6 Curriculum

Welcome to Y6’s class pages!

Autumn term:

Our Y6 team are ready to have the pupils back in school to embark on their final challenge at Broom Valley. Your teachers are: Miss Eyre, Mr Smith and Mr Hawkins. Our key subject driver will be art, where we will develop skills and techniques involved in observational drawing through the medium of pencil. We will also delve into the medium of acrylic paint and wire to create sculptures that will feature in 'Broom Valley's Sculpture Park' at the end of October. We will study work by David Briggs, Michael Lang and Antony Gormley as well as many other inspiring artists and sculptors. There will be opportunities for us to explore other aspects of learning within French, PE, computing, music and science alongside our daily lessons of mathematics, reading and writing. We will also reactivate past learning by revisiting geography, history, RE and DT knowledge and skills weekly.

#Rotherhamlovesreading

Our core text for writing is:

  • Jumanji by Chris Van Allsburg

Our Reading for Pleasure text is:

  • There's a Boy in the Girls' Bathroom by Louis Sachar

Things to remember:

  • Y6 will receive weekly, Friday homework to complete over the weekend and return on the following Monday. This will focus on knowledge or skills taught that week so the children have more opportunity to practise.
  • PE lessons are on Tuesdays and Thursdays so children need to come in their PE kit on those days. Please ensure your child wears suitable clothing (not jeans or boots). PE kits include a white T-shirt and black/blue joggers/leggings/shorts with trainers/pumps.
